Name of the Year
What do Taco Vandervelde, Calamity McIntire and Iona Knipl have in common? They are all nominated in the 2009 Name of the Year contest. But there are many, many more and all are seeded in a bracket, much like your March Madness bracket.
Name of the Year was founded in 1983 on an Ivy League campus. Its mission has remained unchanged: to discover, verify, nominate, elect and disseminate great names. All names included are, to the best of their knowledge, real. No malice is intended.
If you don't piss yourself, you're not alive.
Oh! The humanity.

Wired's 10 Top Scientific Discoveries of 2008
Great article linked below from Wired mag's science department. There are so many amazing things happening in the world that main stream media just doesn't cover. The discoveries that are mentioned here are truly heartwarming in that they demonstrate (to me anyway) what good things man is capable of. It's hard not to imagine that at least half of these discoveries will change not only our world, but our individual lives - maybe yours or mine.
Of course, I can understand why someone would want to know about wars and murders and house fires and snow storms rather than this. That's "news!"
